Updated: Jul 12, 2021

Asher (he/him), is a current student at Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, VA and expects to graduate in the spring of 2022. He studies Public Relations and Spanish as a double major. His coursework at ODU has been very diverse, including courses like, Communication Analysis & Criticism, Principles of Media Marketing and Production, Rhetorical Criticism, and Leadership & Events Management. In addition to being a full time student, Asher works part time on campus as a Group Exercise Instructor and a Social Media Specialist in the Student Engagement and Enrollment Services office. Asher also has other social media experience as a volunteer social media event promoter with Mayanza, a nonprofit based out of New Jersey that conducts health screenings for indigenous women and children, among other things, in Guatemala. While most of his experience is in social media, he hopes to eventually work in public relations abroad or with international companies.

As a Spanish major, Asher has a specific interest in Latin American politics, culture, music, and history. His coursework thus far has spanned from classes such as Identities of the Hispanic World to Hispanic Literature, in addition to Spanish writing intensives. He has traveled to Baja California, Mexico twice, and hopes to study abroad in Santiago, Chile before graduating.

Asher is originally from the mountains of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Growing up in rural Virginia inspired his love for nature and the active lifestyle he leads. In his free time, Asher enjoys biking, hiking, surfing, and rock climbing. This summer, Asher is looking forward to exploring Norfolk and the surrounding area for the first time over the summer! Many beach days and trips to the local farmers market are in the future!
