AI Stole My Creativity!

I’ve always had a knack for coming up with innovative ideas—whether that’s a catchy tagline, an engaging experience, or a collaboration no one saw coming. That’s my lane. That’s my natural talent.

But when AI tools came along, I started to wonder: was I relying on them too much? Was I losing the edge that made me stand out?

The funny part? Even this article is being run through ChatGPT right now—for grammar and spelling. I’ve always struggled with run-on sentences (bless my heart), and editing used to take me forever—or required family and friends to pitch in. Now, AI handles that part in seconds.

What it doesn’t handle? The actual creativity. For example, at work I’m developing a collaboration that pulls together the strengths of three different aviation organizations into one powerhouse initiative, thought up by me during brainstorming. Or take my personal upcoming Halloween display—a mix of Sanderson Sisters magic, a villain graveyard, and handmade tombstones that all came from my own quiet time of creativity. Those ideas come from brainstorming, storytelling, and letting my imagination run wild. AI can’t dream those up.

Pro Tip: Dash is a dead giveaway for AI, that and the random emojis the prompts always seem to default to.

And that’s when it hit me: AI isn’t taking away my creativity. It’s up to me to keep that skill sharp, to do the hard work of wrestling with ideas, problems, and the strategic paths to solutions.

AI can polish the grammar, but it can’t replace the spark of an idea that makes people stop, smile, or lean in. I’ll always deliver the Matthew French experience—just with fewer run-ons.
